Husband and wife Rob and Zoe Williams are the bosses here at the straightforwardly named VW Camper Sales (a title that really does say it all), having set up the company some six years ago. Rob has worked in the motorcaravan industry since he left school and has been involved in all aspects, including manufacturing, selling and after-sales. He also has HND-level business qualifications. Zoe has a degree in art and design, and looks after all the VW Camper Sales marketing. As Rob puts it, "our whole thing is VW campers. That's what we know".

Today I successfully got my VW California reclassified on my registration document from 'diesel car' to PLG.

The girl behind the counter at the DVLA office here in Exeter read through my print-out of your advice and then went off to see her manager. Five minutes later it was all approved - Swansea will send me out a new reg document ... and a £25 rebate.

A few hundred yards down the road is Carrs Van Centre, one of the country's main VW California dealers. The sales manager was impressed and intrigued with my success and was keen to photocopy your DVLA information. He said they would likely do a mail shot to all their California customers - which will be welcome news to those who bought a few years back and have since complained they never realised they would be having to stump up £400 vehicle duty.
